Therapeutic and Accessible Yoga Practitioner
Heidi Nechtman, a yoga teacher and yoga therapist specializing in accessible yoga, has a unique journey that bridges her past as an anthropology major with her current dedication to yoga. Her path began as a remedy for the stiffness she experienced from marathon running. Her yoga relationship deepened, seeking some respite from the physical and emotional demands of parenting her three children. Through this practice, she began to grasp the mind-body connection, which not only enhanced her overall well-being but also provided the intellectual stimulation she craved.
As her practice evolved, Heidi experienced profound emotional and physical releases, transforming her into a more complete individual both on and off the mat. Driven by the desire to embody yoga in her daily life, she volunteered at her children's school and recognized that both teachers and students could benefit from yoga's healing powers. She wanted them to experience the same sense of wholeness that she had discovered.
Determined to share this gift, Heidi pursued multiple certifications, including a 500-hour Healing Emphasis Yoga certification and an 800-hour Yoga Therapy certification. These educational experiences enriched her understanding of physical alignment, meditation practices, and the philosophical foundations of yoga.
Passionate about accessibility, Heidi is committed to making yoga inclusive for all, particularly older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers and those they care for. She believes in meeting students where they are, honoring their unique bodies, and fostering a supportive, accepting environment. Her approach is patient, and kind, and she has a remarkable ability to instill a sense of calm in any space.
Heidi's mission extends beyond physical practice; she aims to help her students feel seen, heard, and connected to their inner selves and the world around them. Her work brings joy and a sense of community, embodying the essence of yoga in every aspect of her life.
When I first began attending yoga classes with Heidi, I needed both physical and emotional strength building. My previous experience with yoga had been mostly physical, including one class that was so difficult for me it made me nauseas. I’m a recreational derby skater and a nurse so my body and spirit were a bit bruised and in need of a gentle approach. Heidi’s classes are exactly what I was hoping for and after each class I feel both relaxed and energized. Her approach is gentle, encouraging, and inclusive. She’s inspired me to listen to what my body needs, navigate my body’s abilities to achieve the best outcome, and embrace the restorative properties of yoga. -Holly S.
